this island is a spiritual place. it lies just to the east of isle au haut in penobscot bay. it has a 90' cliff on its western shore and is an important nesting spot for many seabirds. for a few months each year, this small treeless island is screaming with new life, but most of the time, only the wind blowing through old growth grasses and foamy surf crashing on rocks is the only sound heard. this photo is about that sound. |
